Kanakuk Kamp’s KampOut! Coming to Tulsa June 10-14! Hurry to get a spot!

Kanakuk Kamp’s KampOut will be at Fellowship Bible Church in Tulsa on June 10-14. KampOut offers Kampers the Kanakuk summer camp experience in a day camp setting within their hometown. For five days, from 9am until 4pm, KampOut gives kindergarten through fifth graders an experience filled with guided sports and activities, Bible study, worship, and small-group time led by professional Kanakuk Kamps staff. Outdoor activities include a climbing wall, inflatables, a slip-n-slide, a zip line and a euro-bungee. To ensure camper safety throughout the week in each location, a volunteer healthcare professional will be onsite each day. KampOut also offers parents a 5pm pick-up option for a $25 per child fee. The Changing of the Guard at The Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier
(Saturday, May 25th, 2013)

Members of the Starbase Composite Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol will reenact the “Changing of the Guard” at the replica of the Tomb of the Unknowns west of Floral Haven Funeral Home. They will be performing this solemn ceremony 24 hours a day (every half hour during the daytime and every hour at night) beginning at 1:00 PM Saturday through 4:00 PM on Monday. Many of these cadets have undergone special training with the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery.

This year’s Concours for the Cure will be held at Southern Hills Country Club on Sunday, September 29, from 4 – 7 p.m., and if you attend only one event this year it needs to be the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) annual Concours for the Cure! This is a one-of-a-kind event for Tulsa, and the only Concours in the world benefitting all people with diabetes. With its spectacular views and elegant surroundings Southern Hills is the perfect setting for you to relax and leisurely stroll through Snug Harbor while enjoying soft string quartet music in the background. You can sip champagne while you enjoy a private viewing of some very prestigious classic, antique, and exotic cars, each one with its own fascinating history. It includes a sumptuous buffet prepared by Southern Hill and a live auction. Dress is “Pebble Beach Casual”. All proceeds from this event support diabetes research, education and community programs. The ADA has funded research projects within the State of Oklahoma totaling over $8.3 million to find a cure for all types of diabetes that affect both children and adults. The ADA also funds research to prevent the devastating complications of diabetes which include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and severe infections leading to foot and leg amputations. 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, including 15% of our Oklahoma population (one-third of those who have diabetes have not yet been diagnosed). Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards The Rotary Club of Tulsa is presenting its 20th Annual Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards. This year’s keynote speaker will be one of the top coaching figures in college basketball, John Calipari, the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach. In addition to coaching, Calipari is a humanitarian who used telethons to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake and last year’s Hurricane Sandy. Plus, his foundation has raised millions of dollars to help people in need across the country. The Iba Awards were created in 1994 to recognize a male and a female premier athlete who have not only excelled in their sport, but also have shown by their actions a desire to help others. Henry P. Iba, a former Oklahoma State University basketball coach and coach of three U.S. Olympic basketball teams, was an unparalleled success as a coach, a leader and a citizen. Each recipient will receive a solid bronze trophy and $15,000 donated to their favorite charity. The recipients will be announced prior to the event. Proceeds benefit the Rotary Club of Tulsa Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization that gives financial assistance to worthy organizations located primarily in Tulsa and surrounding communities. Examples of organizations that have benefited from these funds include: Tulsa Boys’ Home, The Little Light House, Girl Scouts-Magic Empire, Operation Aware, Up With Trees, YMCA, Salvation Army, DVIS, Neighbor for Neighbor and Special Olympics. This year’s Concours for the Cure will be held at Southern Hills Country Club on Sunday, September 29, from 4 – 7 p.m., and if you attend only one event this year it needs to be the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) annual Concours for the Cure! This is a one-of-a-kind event for Tulsa, and the only Concours in the world benefitting all people with diabetes. With its spectacular views and elegant surroundings Southern Hills is the perfect setting for you to relax and leisurely stroll through Snug Harbor while enjoying soft string quartet music in the background. You can sip champagne while you enjoy a private viewing of some very prestigious classic, antique, and exotic cars, each one with its own fascinating history. It includes a sumptuous buffet prepared by Southern Hill and a live auction. Dress is “Pebble Beach Casual”. All proceeds from this event support diabetes research, education and community programs. The ADA has funded research projects within the State of Oklahoma totaling over $8.3 million to find a cure for all types of diabetes that affect both children and adults. The ADA also funds research to prevent the devastating complications of diabetes which include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and severe infections leading to foot and leg amputations. 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, including 15% of our Oklahoma population (one-third of those who have diabetes have not yet been diagnosed). A Midsummer Night's Dream by Portico Dans Theatre & Tulsa Camerata
(Friday, May 31st, 2013)

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a new collaborative work between Portico Dans Theatre (PDT) and Tulsa Camerata (TC) that debuts this spring. This interpretation revamps Shakespeare’s classic play via contemporary and aerial dance, a live musical ensemble and custom animation. Admission is free and takes place May 31-June 1 at the Brady Art District’s Guthrie Green. PDT and TC create a customized piece of artistic theatre using their unexpected mixture of traditional and alternative live music and spellbinding choreography. TC plays compositions by Mendelssohn and the orchestral version of The Velvet Underground’s Heroin (in addition to recorded music). The storyline of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” remains the same as the classical version, however PDT and TC work with local artists to add several specialized differences that amplify the excitement and intrigue of this production. Local actor/writer Justin McKean updates the original story to use modern-day characters and location. He also adapts the script for PDT’s choreography to tell the story alongside select dialogue acted by Tulsa Shakespeare in the Park. Tulsa artist Mery McNett completes the production with original video artistry. Audiences will not want to miss this unique version of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” Set in the beautiful downtown Guthrie Green, the dance, music and theatrical excellence of this piece is an event the entire family will enjoy.

Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards
(Monday, June 3rd, 2013)

The Rotary Club of Tulsa is presenting its 20th Annual Henry P. Iba Citizen Athlete Awards. This year’s keynote speaker will be one of the top coaching figures in college basketball, John Calipari, the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball coach. In addition to coaching, Calipari is a humanitarian who used telethons to raise money for victims of the Haiti earthquake and last year’s Hurricane Sandy. Plus, his foundation has raised millions of dollars to help people in need across the country. The Iba Awards were created in 1994 to recognize a male and a female premier athlete who have not only excelled in their sport, but also have shown by their actions a desire to help others. Henry P. Iba, a former Oklahoma State University basketball coach and coach of three U.S. Olympic basketball teams, was an unparalleled success as a coach, a leader and a citizen. Each recipient will receive a solid bronze trophy and $15,000 donated to their favorite charity. The recipients will be announced prior to the event. Riverside Toastmasters

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure. Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and mentoring to help. Then we ask them to lead. Riverside Toastmasters meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.

We, as women, wear so many hats in our daily lives that we can become weighed down with a tremendous burden of responsibility which can lead to discouragement. Glenpool Black Gold Days

Black Gold Days is the premier festival and main community event highlight of the year for Glenpool citizens. It is attended by roughly 10,000 people over a 4 day period in June, this year being the 20-23. From carnival rides, unique food vendors, live entertainment, fun arts and craft vendors and a beauty pageant, there's something for everyone at Black Gold Days. 2013 will also also feature a 5K run and Fun Run walk. People come from all over Northeast Oklahoma to attend this event, and vendors travel from all over the Midwest to showcase their items. This will be the 35th year for the festival.

This year’s Concours for the Cure will be held at Southern Hills Country Club on Sunday, September 29, from 4 – 7 p.m., and if you attend only one event this year it needs to be the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) annual Concours for the Cure! This is a one-of-a-kind event for Tulsa, and the only Concours in the world benefitting all people with diabetes. With its spectacular views and elegant surroundings Southern Hills is the perfect setting for you to relax and leisurely stroll through Snug Harbor while enjoying soft string quartet music in the background. You can sip champagne while you enjoy a private viewing of some very prestigious classic, antique, and exotic cars, each one with its own fascinating history. It includes a sumptuous buffet prepared by Southern Hill and a live auction. Dress is “Pebble Beach Casual”. All proceeds from this event support diabetes research, education and community programs. The ADA has funded research projects within the State of Oklahoma totaling over $8.3 million to find a cure for all types of diabetes that affect both children and adults. The ADA also funds research to prevent the devastating complications of diabetes which include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and severe infections leading to foot and leg amputations. 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, including 15% of our Oklahoma population (one-third of those who have diabetes have not yet been diagnosed). A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure. Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and mentoring to help. Then we ask them to lead. Riverside Toastmasters meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure. Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and mentoring to help. Then we ask them to lead. Riverside Toastmasters meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.

This year’s Concours for the Cure will be held at Southern Hills Country Club on Sunday, September 29, from 4 – 7 p.m., and if you attend only one event this year it needs to be the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) annual Concours for the Cure! This is a one-of-a-kind event for Tulsa, and the only Concours in the world benefitting all people with diabetes. With its spectacular views and elegant surroundings Southern Hills is the perfect setting for you to relax and leisurely stroll through Snug Harbor while enjoying soft string quartet music in the background. You can sip champagne while you enjoy a private viewing of some very prestigious classic, antique, and exotic cars, each one with its own fascinating history. It includes a sumptuous buffet prepared by Southern Hill and a live auction. Dress is “Pebble Beach Casual”. All proceeds from this event support diabetes research, education and community programs. The ADA has funded research projects within the State of Oklahoma totaling over $8.3 million to find a cure for all types of diabetes that affect both children and adults. The ADA also funds research to prevent the devastating complications of diabetes which include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and severe infections leading to foot and leg amputations. 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, including 15% of our Oklahoma population (one-third of those who have diabetes have not yet been diagnosed). Gaither Vocal Band

The Gaither Vocal Band got its start in the early 1980s with four guys singing around a piano backstage before a Bill Gaither Trio concert. Gary McSpadden, Steve Green, Lee Young and Bill Gaither were just having fun, harmonizing on “Your First Day in Heaven” when Bill decided they should try out their new sound on a live audience that very night. The audience went wild… and that impromptu performance marked the beginning of an era.

This year’s Concours for the Cure will be held at Southern Hills Country Club on Sunday, September 29, from 4 – 7 p.m., and if you attend only one event this year it needs to be the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) annual Concours for the Cure! This is a one-of-a-kind event for Tulsa, and the only Concours in the world benefitting all people with diabetes. With its spectacular views and elegant surroundings Southern Hills is the perfect setting for you to relax and leisurely stroll through Snug Harbor while enjoying soft string quartet music in the background. You can sip champagne while you enjoy a private viewing of some very prestigious classic, antique, and exotic cars, each one with its own fascinating history. It includes a sumptuous buffet prepared by Southern Hill and a live auction. Dress is “Pebble Beach Casual”. All proceeds from this event support diabetes research, education and community programs. The ADA has funded research projects within the State of Oklahoma totaling over $8.3 million to find a cure for all types of diabetes that affect both children and adults. The ADA also funds research to prevent the devastating complications of diabetes which include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and severe infections leading to foot and leg amputations. 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, including 15% of our Oklahoma population (one-third of those who have diabetes have not yet been diagnosed). Riverside Toastmasters
(Thursday, August 8th, 2013)

A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure. Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and mentoring to help. Then we ask them to lead. Riverside Toastmasters meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.

This year’s Concours for the Cure will be held at Southern Hills Country Club on Sunday, September 29, from 4 – 7 p.m., and if you attend only one event this year it needs to be the American Diabetes Association’s (ADA) annual Concours for the Cure! This is a one-of-a-kind event for Tulsa, and the only Concours in the world benefitting all people with diabetes. With its spectacular views and elegant surroundings Southern Hills is the perfect setting for you to relax and leisurely stroll through Snug Harbor while enjoying soft string quartet music in the background. You can sip champagne while you enjoy a private viewing of some very prestigious classic, antique, and exotic cars, each one with its own fascinating history. It includes a sumptuous buffet prepared by Southern Hill and a live auction. Dress is “Pebble Beach Casual”. All proceeds from this event support diabetes research, education and community programs. The ADA has funded research projects within the State of Oklahoma totaling over $8.3 million to find a cure for all types of diabetes that affect both children and adults. The ADA also funds research to prevent the devastating complications of diabetes which include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and severe infections leading to foot and leg amputations. 26 million people in the U.S. have diabetes, including 15% of our Oklahoma population (one-third of those who have diabetes have not yet been diagnosed). The nationally-televised Built Ford Tough Series visits some of the most famous arenas across the United States, including Madison Square Garden in New York and Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Each event has a winner, and riders accumulate points towards the ultimate goal, the Professional Bull Riders World Championship. A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure atmosphere. There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure. Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and mentoring to help. Then we ask them to lead. Riverside Toastmasters meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month.

The Tulsa Area United Way’s annual Day of Caring will kick off with a free breakfast and program at 7 a.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club, 2143 S. Olympia Ave. After the breakfast and program, Day of Caring participants will disperse to more than 350 job sites located across the Tulsa area. Several job sites will be located in the Eugene Field neighborhood and Red Fork area in southwest Tulsa.
